Case Study
Providing an Anti-Poverty Nonprofit with a Modern, Responsive Website
Helping Overcome Poverty’s Effects (HOPE) is an anti-poverty nonprofit organization working in Addison County, Vermont. They operate a food shelf and offer all kinds of counseling and assistance for folks living on low-incomes or facing housing or other economic insecurity, as well as running a popular resale store.
The small team at HOPE had an aging self-hosted WordPress website that was difficult to maintain and update, and was challenging to use on mobile devices. For this project, I migrated the WordPress website to Squarespace — an easy-to-use website builder platform, and focused on putting the information visitors need front and center in a website designed to be simple to navigate on mobile devices:
- Lots of images, so visitors know what to expect from the food shelf and other offerings.
- Location, directions, and hours easy to access.
- Integration with the Network for Good donation page for online giving.
The new website also loads significantly faster on mobile devices and is served over https with an SSL certificate in place, putting an end to those “insecure website” warning signs.
